Partner Visa

The Australian Partner Visa allows the spouse, de facto partner, or fiancé of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia.

What is the Australian Partner Visa?

The Australian Partner Visa allows the spouse, de facto partner, or fiancé of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia. The visa is granted in two stages:

  1. Temporary Partner Visa (subclass 820 or 309)
  • Initially, applicants are granted a temporary visa, allowing them to live and work in Australia while their application for a permanent visa is processed.
  1. Permanent Partner Visa (subclass 801 or 100)
  • After the temporary visa is granted and a specified waiting period, the applicant may be eligible for the permanent visa, enabling them to live permanently in Australia.

Who is Eligible for a Partner Visa?

To be eligible for a Partner Visa, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Relationship Status: You must be in a genuine, ongoing relationship with an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • Marriage: If applying as a spouse, you must be legally married to your partner.
